Giants flee from Huawei. But what is so frightening about the Chinese company?

Caught in the crossfire of the trade war, Huawei runs the risk of slowly suffocating, perishing at the hands of sanctions tailor-made by the US Presidency. Google’s decision to stop supplying technology to the Chinese conglomerate, although since suspended, was just the first stone thrown into a pond that, sooner or later, could become a rough and dangerous sea for one of the Asian companies with the biggest presence in Europe.

In the early hours of Monday, Reuters broke the news that Google would stop providing updates to the Android used in Huawei’s phones. What is more, the story said the brand’s next launches would not be licensed to use basic apps such as Gmail, Maps and YouTube. Microsoft also quietly removed Huawei computers from its online store. And the chipmakers Intel and Qualcomm likewise chose to stop doing business with Huawei.
