Brussels sets out to conquer “technological sovereignty”

The European Commission wants to regain the EU’s “technological sovereignty”. To that end, this week it presented a “generational project” that provides for the creation of a single market for data, heavy investment in artificial intelligence and tighter requirements for the big tech companies… which, as a rule, are all American.

In this first phase, President Ursula von der Leyen’s aim is to spark a broad public debate on the subject. But new legislation should emerge closer to the end of the year, after a period marked by heavy fines against Google, and at a time when cases against Amazon and Facebook are still under way.
